Marriott International’s Edition luxury lifestyle hotel brand is set to expand in 2018. The group plans to open properties in Shanghai and Bangkok as well as debut hotels in Barcelona, Abu Dhabi, New York, West Hollywood in Los Angeles and Bodrum in Turkey.
SQ to debut new cabins on Sydney route
Singapore Airlines has announced that its Sydney-Singapore route will be the first to experience the new A380 cabin products. Full details will not be revealed until next week, but they include new Suites as well as updated business, premium economy and economy class cabins. Flights SQ221/222 will operate daily on the new aircraft from 18 December.
China Eastern adds transit value
Travellers flying China Eastern Airlines via Shanghai to Europe, North America, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan will now receive added value. Effective immediately, passengers flying from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Cairns with a transit time of more than six hours can choose two items from either day hotel use, an airport meal voucher or a return Maglev train ticket. Shorter transits will be offered a choice of a meal voucher or a train ticket. Groups of six or more passengers travelling together to Europe or North America with a transit time of more than eight hours will enjoy a free half- day Shanghai tour and a meal voucher.
NZ Electric car hire
Europcar is adding electric cars to its fleet offering in Auckland and Christchurch, with the introduction of the brand new e-Golf model.
Hyatt House Frankfurt
Hyatt Hotels plans to open a new property in Germany. The 190-room Hyatt House Frankfurt/Eschborn is set to open in late 2019 on Ring Road in the city’s business area.
New Art Series for Melbourne
A new Art Series Hotel is set to open in the Melbourne suburb of Box Hill on 22 November. The Chen, inspired by Chinese-Australian artist Zhong Chen, will feature 100 suites, with a range of dining options, including a Yum Cha restaurant, opening later in the year.
Adina Brisbane opening soon
TFE Hotels plans to open a new Adina Apartment Hotel Brisbane in February next year. Located on George Street in the CBD, the property will offer 220 apartments as well as a restaurant and bar.
Emirates updates Australian menu
Emirates has launched a new menu on its Australian routes. The menu features regionally influenced recipes made with local produce including SA Angus Beef, Brasserie Bread and Yarra Valley Cheese.
Four points Tanzania
Marriott International has debuted its Four Points by Sheraton brand in Tanzania. Located less than five minutes walk from the Arusha International Conference Centre, the 106-room Four Points by Sheraton Arusha, The Arusha Hotel features a restaurant and bars, a swimming pool and fitness centre as well as a meeting and event space catering for up to 600 guests.
Sheraton expands in Malaysia
A new Sheraton-brand hotel has opened in Malaysia. The 253-room Sheraton Petaling Jaya is located just 10 kilometres west of Kuala Lumpur and boasts a wide range of dining options, a swimming pool, fitness centre and more than 3,000sqm of meting and event space catering for up to 1,260 guests.
New airport lounge for Riyadh
Plaza Premium Group has opened a new lounge in Saudi Arabia. Located in Terminal 1 of Riyadh International Airport, the lounge offers seating for up to 250 people. The group also has plans for a lounge at Dammam Airport.
Hilton Hotels & Resorts has opened its first property in Kazakhstan. Set within the EXPO-2017 exhibition complex, the 253-room Hilton Astana is within minutes of city centre, corporate offices, government departments and Astana International Airport. The hotel features a restaurant and rooftop bar, a spa, 24-hour fitness centre and indoor pool as well as more than 4,000sqm of meeting and event space catering for up to 900 people.
Etihad ceases DFW flights
Etihad Airways is ceasing flights on its Abu Dhabi-Dallas Fort Worth route effective from 25 March 2018. The move comes after American Airlines terminated its codeshare agreement with the carrier.
The first Marriott-branded hotel has opened in Indonesia. Locate in on the island of Java, the 347-room Yogyakarta Marriott Hotel features a choice of dining venues, a spa, fitness centre and swimming pool as well as 2,535sqm of meeting and event space, including a pillarless ballroom with a capacity of up to 2,500 guests.
Marriott names Tassie property
Marriott International has named its new Hobart property. The 128-room The Tasman, a Luxury Collection Hotel is set to open in late 2018. It will be located in the city’s Parliament Square, Hobart, as part an urban revitalisation project.
$50m hotel plan for OOL
Rydges has plans to open a new hotel at the Gold Coast Airport. Located close to the airport’s major terminal expansion project, the four-star property will feature 192 rooms, a restaurant, swimming pool, a rooftop bar and viewing deck as well as meeting and event facilities. It is set to open in 2019.
AccorHotels has opened a new Mercure-branded property in western New South Wales. The 77-room Mercure Orange (formerly the Templers Mill Hotel, Orange), which is located in the heart of the city’s CBD, has undergone a revamp. The property includes two meeting rooms that cater to funtions of up to 500 guests. The hotel also features two restaurants as well as a swimming pool, sauna and gym.
Hyatt House makes Europe debut
Hyatt has debuted its Hyatt House brand in Europe. Located in West Germany, the 102-room Hyatt House Dusseldorf/Andreas Quarter. The property includes two small boardrooms catering for up to eight people.
Marriot adds another in China
Marriott International has opened a new property in Tianjin, China. The 258-room Courtyard by Marriott Tianjin Hongqiao is located in the business district of northern Tianjin. The property features an all-day restaurant, a 24-hour fitness centre and six meeting rooms.
